Colleen Dunn Bates

Colleen Dunn BatesColleen Dunn Bates heads up Prospect Park Media, a publishing company based in Pasadena, California. She founded the press in 2006 after spending 25 years as an author, magazine journalist, book editor, and newspaper editor. Prospect Park publishes trade books, including the award-winning bestsellers EAT: Los Angeles, Helen of Pasadena, Celebrating with Julienne, and Hometown Pasadena, and the upcoming Neurotic Parent’s Guide to College Admissions. Prospect Park also produces custom-publishing titles for nonprofits and companies. It also produces the online magazines Hometown-Pasadena.com and Eat-LA.com and provides consulting and editorial services. In the coming year it is expanding further into children’s books, humor and mystery fiction.

Bates is on the board of directors of PubWest, a national association for small and mid-size publishers, and PAP&RS, a group of publishing professionals working to support LA’s literary community. A sixth-generation Southern Californian, she has lived in Pasadena for 20 years with her husband, Darryl Bates, a television editor, and their two college-student daughters.
