If you know the official name please let me know. At Casa Jones we refer to it as the bread thingy and I had no clue just how useful these little guys could be. I saw this on unplggd and immediately pinned it I was so excited. I have 10-12 wires hanging off the back of my desk and an electric panel that accommodates 9 so I am constantly having to switched what’s plugged in depending on what I am working on. After getting down on all fours, I proceed to follow each cord to it’s origin before I can unplug and I am careful to check twice lest I unplug the printer instead of the camera battery. Bottom line, it’s a ridiculous exercise to have to endure over and over again. So here’s my new solution–hope it tickles your organizational funny bone like it did mine!
Most of my days are spent schlepping kiddos to-and-fro, and staring at my computer so I relish the opportunity to show some personality when I head out for my weekly meetings. Here’s what’s on my early Fall (vs. late Fall–I live in LA. No winter to speak of.) wish list.
While some of us are storing everything in the clouds, others still rely on pen and paper to list their secret codes. Keep track of all your passwords, and your favorite sites, with this 6 x 4 website organizer. No more time spent requesting a new password because you simply can’t remember if you logged in with your high school boyfriend’s name or your dress measurements. Now gaining access to your protected info is literally in your hands with your new PFF (Password Filing Friend) from Bob’s Your Uncle.
Tomorrow is the first day of school for my three favorite little people who happen to be related to me – convenient I know. The house has been abuzz with conversations about which friends are in which classroom, what their new teachers will be like and how much homework they will assign, and the ever important, “who will I end up sitting next to?” (For the record, my three year old is just excited about the blue sand in Mrs. Lewis’s preschool playground). Their brightly colored backpacks have been packed, and re-packed, and are awaiting their maiden voyage. School uniforms are set out ready for their debut. All is well in the house of Jones and I must admit, I’m giddy. Don’t get me wrong, summer was great but it’s time to get scheduled, organized, and back to serious business.
Step one, get my desk clutter-free and ready for all that lies ahead. Given the way I work, I have been looking into the best way to make sense of my space and my needs. This picture inspired me and gave me exactly what I was looking for.
Using clip boards will allow me to see everything at once. I will be able compile tear-sheets, articles, reminder notes, budgets, itineraries, and whatever else I can shove into those metal claws. Each clip will house a category; blog post inspirations, favorite business resources, LTD365 LIVE ideas, you get the point. The best part – no desk space required. These handy 9 x 12 boards also have the added benefit of being removable for out of office meetings and fit nicely into my work bag–just grab and go.
What about you? Any organizational tips you wanna share?
Some of you are Forever 21 types, while others run to H & M for trendy, inexpensive finds, but I myself, well I’m a Zara girl. So imagine my delight when I received a box of 50 beautiful photographs (of each of our equally beautiful States) in celebration of the US launch of Zara’s online shop. As much as strolling through the racks pleases me, life does not allow for such indulgences with any regularity. So starting September 7th, you can be sure I’ll be updating my go-to “work wardrobe” with a new fall blazer, some colored trousers and black patent oxfords - and all from the comfort of my office.
I have often advised women who have an idea brewing, but are not yet ready to launch their business, to simply start blogging. Just write! Begin cultivating your vision and your voice, and see how people respond. You will learn a ton along the way. Also, you will know you’re really on to something when people begin to regularly visit your blog.
Enter Grace Booney, a real life example of someone who turned her blogging hobby into a full-blown business. Today, the newly published author’s book, Design Sponge at Home, officially launches on Amazon. How’s that for a blogs to riches story.
This modern day Martha has turned her stylish blog, Design Sponge, into a publishing model for design content. Since 2004 she has used her creative eye and genuine voice to amass a following of 75,000 unique daily visitors, 250,000 daily page views, 150,000 RSS subscribers and 280,000 followers on Twitter. With a fan-base like that, it’s no wonder a publisher snatched her up. Her curated content is savvy enough for design mavens and still manages to offer real how-to advice for the decorating deficient. Mrs. Booney’s blog is equal parts interior design authority, DIY advice for your home, and, my personal favorite, Biz Ladies – tips for her fellow entrepreneurs. She generously shares her experience in an intelligent and accessible manner. Her easy and smart personality have won her an incredibly loyal following, and she is a sparkling example of what passion, commitment and hard work will get you — EVERYTHING!
Congrats Grace! Can’t wait to see you on your book tour!
