I was reading, Digital Royalty founder, Amy Jo Martin’s new book, Renegades Write the Rules, when I was struck by a diagram of what she calls her Life Compass. Rather than the expected North at the top of the compass, Amy has replaced it with the word Intent. East of intent are Idea, Influence, Inspire and Innovate completes the compass’s circle.
After a little searching, I found this Ted Talk with Amy describing her life’s compass after experiencing a personal struggle to find her own life’s purpose. I know first hand that finding your purpose is a regular occurrence, it’s not just what you need to identify in the beginning to launch your venture. At every turn, your purpose, your true intent, needs to guide your every move, not only for the sake of personal integrity but to keep you focused on the goal of your venture. It also makes saying “yes” and “no” to all the opportunities that are sure to come your way much easier.
This new way of setting intentions has my mind racing so naturally I wanted to share it with all of you. I guess it’s safe to say that Intention will always guide the way.
My favorite quote from watching Amy’s TedxRainier was one she took from Simon Sneik, “People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it. The goal isn’t to sell what you have. The goal is to connect with people who believe what you believe.”
Here’s to finding and following our true north!
