women to watch

We are firm believers that seeing first hand how someone else has accomplished a task or achieved success is instrumental in achieving our own. As a result we are always in search of stories that might inform your entrepreneurial process. Lists of who to watch, whose getting funded or who just hit a milestone helps us piece together our own story.

Here are a few of our favorite Women to Watch lists:

Mashable

Women 2.0

Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneurial Winning Women

Forbes Women to Watch

hope defined

Regardless of your political affiliation, Barack Obama shared a moment in his victory speech that left us, well, speechless. All morning our re-elected President’s words have been ringing through our ears.

…I have never been more hopeful about America. And I ask you to sustain that hope. I’m not talking about blind optimism, the kind of hope that just ignores the enormity of the tasks ahead or the roadblocks that stand in our path. I’m not talking about the wishful idealism that allows us to just sit on the sidelines or shirk from a fight.

I have always believed that hope is that stubborn thing inside us that insists, despite all the evidence to the contrary, that something better awaits us so long as we have the courage to keep reaching, to keep working, to keep fighting.”

This passionate definition of hope seems to be the very essence of the entrepreneurial spirit. No doubt we will be posting this quote where we can see it daily to remind ourselves of what can be, and of who we can become.

May we individually strive to realize that stubborn thing inside that insists, and may we collectively hope for an America filled with people (all people) able to freely pursue their calling–that’s our hope.

packing list

We’re off again! Round two of our adventure is less than 24 hours away and the family packing list is all that lies between me and our 7:00 AM flight.  This time we are headed to the East Coast and I am packing for 50 degrees while living in 86 degrees (it’s November people!). One thing that doesn’t need a lot of thought is my toiletry bag, I keep an extra one packed at all times so I don’t have to think about it (although, I put it on my to do list just so I can check it off–I need those little victories).

Here’s my packing list with a few products that serve a double duty.

1) No need to pack a lipstick. Use your lip balm for the plane and days on the go.  When you need a little color add a little lip liner. When you need a lot of color, use your liner to fill in your lips and add balm to the top for moisture and gloss.

2) Buy a black and brown mascara in one. It’s easy to go from day to night with a stroke of the wand.

3) Leave behind the hair gloss, hairspray, mousse, heat protector, etc. etc. Just bring along something that will help set you style while on the go. This Bumble and Bumble styling cream is my personal favorite.

4) Always travel with a good moisturizer. My go-to is Kiehl’s and I make sure it’s slathered on my face as soon as I get on the plane. I also use it for dry cuticles, and if my hair has a case of humidity-frizz or static, I simple rub excess from my hands through my hair–works every time!

5) I always use a little bronzer and occasionally a bit of blush. This two in one gives me options without adding bulk to my bag.

6) Pack a moisturizing conditioner and use it to shave you gams–no need to bring an extra can of shaving lotion.

7) I have two toiletry bags, one for me and a giant one for the family (both from LLBean). The big one makes packing a full size shampoo, conditioner, soap (not a fan of most hotel products) lotions, toothpaste, medications, wipes, first aid kit, etc. easy and serves as a hanging medicine cabinet once we arrive at out destination.

1) travel bag  2) travel shampoo and conditioner  3) moisturizer

4) styling product  5) lip pencil  6) lip balm  7) mascara  8) blush/bronzer

fashionable resource for bloggers

We are always scouting out the best resources for women ready to rock the entrepreneurial world and pursue their passions. Sometimes that means the best apps for ladies on the go, sometimes it’s bringing you the next “it” attache bag, but this time it’s real advice offered up by the fashionable set at Independent Fashion Bloggers (IFB). Don’t be fooled by the name, there are helpful resources here for the most fashion-challenged (we should know).

The IFB community was created for fashion bloggers to share their experiences so everyone could build a better blog. In addition to posting helpful articles, hosting community linking group and forums, IFB’s newest feature, LittleBirdie, connects bloggers to PR professionals.

Their blogging advice is helpful and many tips can be applied immediately to your blogging practice (again, fashion or not). The articles are efficiently categorized to make searching for a solution, or at least thoughtful advice, a cinch.

A few things IFB’s offers it’s community:

  • The IFB Social Network – Find other bloggers in your niche, city, country to share your content with. The IFB social platform gives you a place to ask questions, get answers, as well as set up events and promote your blog.
  • Links a la Mode – a weekly round-up where bloggers submit their top posts for consideration. Approximately 20 stories are selected each week. This has been a huge traffic and SEO driver for participants.
  • Weekly member e-newsletter – features a blogger spotlight, highlights from the forums and Links a la Mode.
  • Fashion Week Events in New York and London earlier this year – over 300 bloggers at each event – prizes donated from independent designers to consumer tech companies like Microsoft. American Express, G-Star RAW sponsored the NYFW event.

If you have a fashion blog, you can join IFB by registering here.

No need to register to check out their great articles sure to direct your path to actually making money blogging.

Happy monetizing!

oh my darling

I happened upon this site sometime ago and was taken with their fresh perspective and newly launched magazine.  As I read their manifesto, I felt like it was a blog/magazine I would want my young adult daughter to read. Since I don’t have one yet (11 years to go), I dove in and found many articles to be age appropriate for my 40+ year old self.

Recently, they created these beautiful illustrations of the various personas they regularly write about on their blog and in their magazine and I fell in love with the characters and thought you would too.

So which darling one, two or three are you?

halloween compost cookie

For years it was either, or. You were either a sweet or salty snacker. But those days are long gone with treats like salted caramel ice cream, bacon pumpkin cupcakes and the like. You can now have your salted cake and eat it too!

With a full day of to-dos and little time, we were in search of a quick holiday treat to satisfy our dueling tastebuds. Imagine our delight when we found these Halloween Compost Cookies inspired by Momofuku at Glitter Guide. Equal parts salty, sweet and crunchy with a dash of caffeine (yes there are coffee grounds in the recipe), these cookies are sure to please every ghost, goblin and ghoul headed your way tonight!
